The French Horn

Descending from the natural horn, the french horn is ironically not French in origin, but German. Consisting of 13 feet of conical tubing wrapped in somewhat of a coil, the french horn is arguably the smoothest, richest sounding instrument in the band. Most french horns use rotary valves and are operated with the left hand. The right hand is then placed or "cupped" inside the bell to further manipulate the tone.
